Project 3:
Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces
Project 1 laid the foundation for our design journey, fostering an understanding of fundamental principles and processes. In Project 2, we expanded our knowledge to encompass structure, materials, anthropometry and ergonomics. Building upon the insights gained from both projects, Project 3 emerged as a synthesis, where we revisited our initial shading structure. This evolved into a 30m3 Sensory Space, seamlessly integrating design principles and structural considerations. My reinterpretation was guided by a dominant emotional theme, resulting in a poetic architectural representation that epitomized the culmination of our first-year exploration in university.
The wisdom begins in wonder.
Embarking on my first architectural project, I found myself immersed in a realm of confusion, a labyrinth of design principles and unfamiliar concepts. Rhythm, hierarchy, and countless other notions left me feeling adrift in a sea of uncertainty. The initial stages were marked by a negative curiosity, wondering if the challenges ahead would surpass the current bewilderment.
However, as I persevered, something shifted. The negative curiosity transformed into a more positive form, fueled by glimpses of what the final project could become. The once-daunting journey turned into an opportunity to explore and trust the unfolding process. Curiosity which is so often overlooked, emerged as a powerful motivator. It became the force that propelled me forward, guiding my decisions and infusing the project with a sense of purpose.
As the project neared completion, gratitude enveloped me. What began as confusion and uncertainty transformed into a journey of self-discovery and creative fulfillment. Curiosity which is often dismissed as a fleeting emotion, proved to be the silent companion that led me through the intricacies of the architectural endeavor, unveiling the joy of exploration and the satisfaction of a completed narrative.
Don’t just be curious – feel it.
In the conception of this spatial design, my intention is to evoke a journey of emotions within the confined parameters of a tight space. As one first steps into the space, curiosity takes hold—sharp angles and overlapping triangles prompt a sense of initial confusion, encouraging exploration. In this design journey, the end goal peeks through an intricate dance of planes and triangles, alluring yet distant. The snug confines aren't limitations but purposeful disruptions, concealing the envisioned tranquility. Visual complexity, with intersecting planes and angular triangles, obscures the essence, demanding a closer look and patient unraveling. Rather than confounding, these geometric disruptions inspire curiosity, inviting observers to explore and ultimately discover the serenity carefully tucked away within the intentional intricacies of this space. Shadows and light intermingle on the timber and triangular surfaces, guiding occupants through the evolving space. The confined space in the end unfolds as the ultimate destination, a cocoon of contentment within both physical and psychological constraints. Here, occupants discover solace in a carefully orchestrated symphony of elements—a poignant reminder that even amidst complexity, the journey leads to the serenity found in the simplicity of a thoughtfully designed space.
